If I said we were having Italian food tonight, would you think we were having a burger? I’m guessing not, but that’s exactly what I’ll be suggesting since having the Bella Burger at Zelo. They have been around for many years. I’ve had great pasta and steaks here, but now when I hear someone say Zelo, I’m going to think “burger”!
I didn’t expect this burger to be good, much less outstanding! Rick Nelson from the Star Tribune loves this burger and I do too.
The premium beef, sourced locally, is the star of this show. It is a big, thick, super juicy, flavorful hunk of meat. This is one where the juices drip onto the plate with every bite. It was cooked perfectly for me. It could not have been any better. You will get a jaw workout with this one.
You don’t see a lot of places use Fontina cheese on their burgers, but personally I love the choice. I love Fontina in Mac & Cheese and I love it on a burger. It is a nutty, creamy, Italian cheese. Soft, chopped, caramelized onions, two slices of fresh tomatoes, good pickles, and greens are placed on top and on the bottom of the patty.
The 2nd star of this burger is their “special sauce”. The server said it was a mix of mustard, mayo, worcestershire and ketchup. I’ll just call the mix, fantastic! It is generously slathered on the top and bottom of the bun and it has that distinct taste you look for. The bun is soft, perfectly toasted, with the crispy edge around the outside. I do have to say with the juiciness of the beef, the tomato and the special sauce, the bottom bun did get a little soggy.
The next time you are down by the Nicollet mall, stop into Zelo and ask for the Bella Burger. It’s a must have Twin Cities burger! I loved it!
House-cut fries – Good.
Braised Meatballs – Outstanding
Tiramisu – Very good!
