The double patty smashburger is King in the Twin Cities and for good reason, but shouldn’t we have more burgers that don’t conform, that do something a little different that catches our eye? Yes, we should!
When I first saw this burger, I got a big smile on my face. This is what we need more of in the Twin Cities. The conversation starts with, “did you see that Gouda burger?”, and ends with, “that was a Damn good burger!”.
The first thing you notice is the skirt of Gouda cheddar cheese around the burger. It’s grilled on the flattop until it gets a little brown and crispy and then it’s placed over the beef patty. What do you do with it? You can just pick it up as is and eat it with the burger or I think most people will pull the outside of it off in a circular motion around the burger, see my attempt, and eat it separately or fold it and put it back on the burger or pull off pieces and have them with each bite of the burger. Have some fun with it.
Getting past the cheese skirt, the star of this show is the garlic butter. It’s garlicky flavor permeates every bite. Where is the butter? It’s inside. Yes, two 1/3 pound beef patties, in Juicy Lucy fashion, get sealed with a chunk of delicious garlic butter inside. It soaks into the beef and dominates it. The patty had a nice char on it and was pretty juicy. A few thin sliced pickles and some sliced red onions line the bottom bun. The bun was buttery soft and fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed every thing about this burger.
The Damn Gouda Burger is available at all #craftncrew restaurants, Monday thru Thursday during Happy Hour between 3 and 6pm for $10. You get a big serving of their delicious rosemary parmesan truffle fries in crinkle cut form.
