A lot of people have opted not to fly somewhere for their vacations and explore the beautiful state of Minnesota.  I’ve seen quite a few people head up to the north shore.  I decided to do that as well.  There is a place where you’ll want to stop at the beginning of your trip or at the end or maybe both.

One of our Minnesota icons, they’ve been doing this since 1960.  I always try to stop on my way up to Duluth or if I’m going to be in the area.  @gordyshihat takes you back in time and gives you that diner-style experience.

I usually opt for the Double Cheeseburger with onions, pickles, ketchup and mustard.  I made one little change and went with fried onions instead of raw onions this time.

A couple of thin, juicy patties that are hand formed every day.  It’s around a 1/3 pound of beef.  I’d love to be able to add a patty.  American cheese melted nicely on the patties.  This was the first time I had fried onions.  They are diced and fried perfectly.  It will be fried for me going forward.  I’ll take some sliced dill pickles.  I added ketchup and mustard to complete my burger.  The bun is simple, it’s not toasted.  This is a good burger and what you would expect from a diner like experience.

I do want to mention their Coney Dog.  My first time trying it and I was struck by the flavor of the chili.  It was delicious!  This will be a staple for me going forward.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, Gordy’s is doing CarHop service.  You will drive into a line, be given a stall number when one is available and a server will come out and take your order.  It was a very good experience for us.

You’ve still got some time to make a trip to this Minnesota Treasure.  They will be open as long as weather permits.
