If I’m in the race to find a great burger in Lowertown St. Paul, I’ll put my money on the Dark Horse Bar & Eatery. A pretty cool place with a very cool burger!
The patty is listed as a brisket blend. It was pretty juicy and flavorful and close to my medium preference. Smoked Gouda cheese is a good choice. What stood out for me was the bacon, which is actually more like pork belly. It is super thick and tasty. I love their Thousand Island sauce and they were generous with it. I like the choice of shredded lettuce.
I’m liking how places are cutting their pickles in different shapes and styles. These pickles were chopped up into fairly small chunks and had a dill flavor to them. You may want to remember this if you are not a pickle person, but I totally am. It was a nice touch. The bun is a soft, kind of spongy type thing. It was lightly toasted as most are, but it did kind of fall apart towards the end. I don’t mind that at all though. It’s kind of fun for me to pick up the pieces and put it all back together again.
If you are in the Lowertown area of St. Paul and looking for a really good burger as I know you would be, Dark Horse Bar & Eatery should be on your hit list. I really liked this burger!
