Today is National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day. Pretty exciting, right? We all love PB & J sandwiches. In my world, there is one thing better than a PB & J sandwich. You know where I’m going? A Peanut Butter & Jelly Burger! Where else would I be at the beginning of the month, than at Celts Craft House in Apple Valley, and as non-coincidental as it may sound, Chef Al’s Burger of the Month just happens to be the Sweet & Spicy PB & J Burger.
If you are a peanut butter and jelly fan, this is your BOM. Your time has come. The beef blend of chuck, short rib & brisket is cooked to temp, juicy and heavily seasoned. You will definitely notice the thick, flavorful char on the outside of the patty. The peanut butter is Al’s favorite, JIF Extra Crunchy Peanut Butter. That is spread over the patty and a little well is created in the middle. This is where the sweet, spicy, and oh so addicting, house-made pepper jelly is placed. It slowly oozes out, creeping over the well and out to the edges of the patty, perfectly blanketing the peanut butter.
Chef Al wanted to make sure this PB & J Burger was not only sweet & spicy, but crunchy as well. The bun is the vessel for this crunch. On the top and bottom buns, a mixture of sugar, cinnamon and cayenne is spread over them. Then it is “bruleed”. This caramelization technique gives it a thin, crunchy outer shell resembling creme brulee. During and after your enjoyment of this unique, delicious burger, you will be licking peanut butter off your fingers and you will be sticky from the pepper jelly. This might be the best Peanut Butter & Jelly Burger you’ll ever have!
