St. Paul’s East Side. When was the last time you took a drive down Payne Avenue? I can tell you the food scene is alive and well. Twin Cities Burger Night is minus one tonight as @phatphood is out recovering from an injury, but we know he’ll be back soon to join @shawnsrodgers and myself on our next burger adventure. We want to thank @mnchuck for joining us at the last minute.
Tonight was the two year anniversary of Brunson’s Pub and we were happy to be celebrating with them. There were so many things on the menu I wanted to try, but I’ll start with the burger. I know the Classic Double is a very good burger. I went with another very popular one called #No Payne No Gain. Fresh Angus beef, good flavor, cooked to temp, pretty juicy and a good char on it. There is a generous amount of a thick, creamy substance on top. It’s a blend of blue and American cheese. It has a unique cream cheesy type texture to it. It has a blue cheese flavor, but doesn’t have the full blue cheese bite. I liked it! What will look like pulled pork is actually their smokey pulled bacon, which is brined and braised in house. It’s delicious. You will see their pulled bacon in quite a few dishes throughout the menu. Next, is some very colorful, blackberry vidalia jam. It has a sweet flavor to it, with the mix of blackberries and vidalia onions. A very good, lightly toasted bun from @grandmasbakerywbl finishes off this flavorful burger creation. You have some very good, unique burger choices to pick from.
I want to touch on one other menu item. The Brunson Wings just might be the best in the Twin Cities. They are that good. We had the Maple Soy, and they were fantastic. Their chipotle sauce is awesome. They use split chicken thighs instead of the wing. I would go just to try all of the different flavors and call it a day.
If you are going to be in St. Paul, head East! Brunson’s Pub is a very affordable, casual, fun neighborhood restaurant. Thank you, Thomas, for having us in.
