I was super excited when I heard Chef Mik, was taking over the kitchen at American Legion Post 98 in St. Paul Park.  I was even more excited to get out there and check out his menu.

This was a fun night.  Chef was answering a few questions we had about the 328 Grill menu, specifically about the burgers, and a friendly person at the next table said, “you need to get this burger, it’s my favorite.”. Then someone at another table said, “you have to get this one, it’s by far the best!”. They were genuinely excited to tell us about all their favorite menu items that Mik has been cooking up for them for a couple of weeks now.

I thought I had made my burger choice, but I was waffling.  I finally picked a burger that one of the other tables had recommended, the Walk of Shame burger.  I thought I’d try something a little different.  This is Chef’s breakfast burger, with a couple of cool twists.

𝘼𝙡𝙡 𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙪𝙨 𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙮, 𝙢𝙖𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙗𝙪𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧, 𝘼𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙚𝙨𝙚, 𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙬𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙨𝙢𝙤𝙠𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙤𝙣, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖 𝙨𝙪𝙣𝙣𝙮-𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙪𝙥 𝙚𝙜𝙜 𝙤𝙣 𝙖 “𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙝 𝙩𝙤𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙙” 𝙗𝙪𝙣.

I’m going to start with the buns.  The top and bottom buns are dipped in an egg batter just like you would do for French toast.  I have not experienced French toasted buns before.  Too cool.  The beef is a 6 ounce Angus patty.  A brisket, short rib & chuck blend.  I like how the fat content was raised in the blend.  It’s a 77/23 ratio.  It gives you a better shot at a juicy burger.

Chef puts house made maple butter on top of the patty and lets it soak into the beef.  American cheese is melted on top.  Two beautifully cooked strips of applewood smoked bacon.  It’s topped with the classic sunny side up egg.  This burger is the perfect breakfast creation and I’ll have breakfast any time of the day.  Next time I will ask for a side of maple syrup.
